Cunamacué is a dynamic performance group that celebrates Afro-Peruvian culture through music, dance, and theater, blending traditional Afro-Peruvian movements with modern dance and other African Diaspora influences to create contemporary expressions. Rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area, our performances serve as a powerful platform to amplify the history, voices and cultural heritage of African descendants from Peru, fostering community engagement, healing, and celebration. By using music and dance as tools for transformation, Cunamacué seeks to honor and evolve Afro-Peruvian traditions while inviting diverse audiences to participate in cultural dialogue and appreciation.

Manos de Mujer

This piece was inspired by women, their hands, and the work that they do. Each dancer taking on a different role/energy.

Espíritu y Fertilidad

This piece is both in the Festejo and Lando rhythm and was a collaboration between Cunamacué and Proyecto Lando.

Sueños Entrelazados

This piece inspired is inspired by the Landó rhythm, the African deity Oshun, and the element of water.

Zamba Zamacueca

This Zamacueca dance was inspired by Marina Lavalle's song "Azucarado". It's a joyful, playful dance amongst women that takes place in an imaginary marketplace.
